The evolution of laughter

Recent research seems to suggest that laughter, long thought to be unique to humans, is in fact an ancient part of our genetic inheritance, shared with our closest animal cousins. This has come as a surprise to scientists, but there is, of course, a long tradition of humans and apes collaborating for comic effect, as this clip ably proves:
